Zarzueleando: The perfect fusion between music and theater
The Cultural Foundation Armonía and the Renaissance Philharmonic Orchestra showcase the talent of young Ecuadorians through the production “Zarzueleando”, a lyrical anthology-style performance that narrates the different eras and aspects of Spanish life. This collection of works will be performed by more than 60 artists on stage, recreating romances, duets, and choruses from zarzuelas such as La Verbena de la Paloma, La Gran Vía, Doña Francisquita, and the incomparable Luisa Fernanda. The performance will highlight the splendor of this musical genre and will take place at the San Gabriel Theater on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
The family show is under the general direction of María Fernanda Argoti, director of the Cultural Foundation Armonía. The musical direction will be led by Eudin Ramos, conductor of the Renaissance Philharmonic, while Ana Cristina Córdoba will be in charge of the Córdoba Dance Company.
Zarzueleando presents an avant-garde staging with group choreographies, theater, and music, immersing the audience in the Spanish tradition of the 19th century. This comic-lyrical sainete reflects the rural drama of the time, which continues to resonate today through themes of intrigue, love, and honor.
The original staging, created by the Armonía Foundation, combines several musical works adapted to form a novel set in a typical Spanish neighborhood, where a comedic story of love, passion, and jealousy unfolds.
The Armonía Foundation, a nonprofit organization, opened its doors to culture on September 23, 2010. Its mission is to promote educational and sociocultural projects that foster the exchange of experiences across all areas of art.
