THE MOST ICONIC WORK OF SPANISH MUSIC ARRIVES IN QUITO
-THE WITCH LOVE-
Armonía Cultural Foundation celebrates its 8th anniversary with the staging of "El Amor Brujo," a fusion of flamenco singing and dancing performed by more than 50 artists recreating the work of Spanish composer Manuel Falla.
The performance will take place at the Casa de la Música on Saturday, November 23rd, at 8:00 p.m., under the general direction of María Fernanda Argoti, director of the Armonía Cultural Foundation; the musical direction of Luis Castro, director of the Youth Orchestra; members of the Youth Orchestra of Ecuador, the Fusion Flamenco dance group, a mezzo-soprano, a narrator, and a pianist.
"El Amor Brujo" offers a cutting-edge staging, with group choreography, that immerses the audience in the world of poetry, flamenco, and the mysticism of Romani culture.
The work, born 103 years ago, was not without controversy. Upon its premiere in Madrid, it had to be withdrawn and changed by the composer, eventually becoming one of the most performed and covered pieces in the history of Spanish music. With a markedly passionate character, it tells the story of a gypsy girl whose love is tormented by her former lover. An anti-Romantic composition, it combines hate and love, witchcraft and seduction, death and dance.
The Armonía Foundation, a non-profit organization, opened its doors to culture on September 23, 2011. Its goal is to promote educational and sociocultural projects to foster the exchange of experiences in all areas of the arts.
